This episode of Unleaded references the website of editor Edmund R. Schubert. He has a great article that offers one some food for thought on the idea of word choice and the importance of writers being cognizant of their options.

Welcome to Unleaded – Fuel for Writers. I’m Day Al-Mohamed with your daily 60 seconds of writerly inspiration and perspiration
I have to admit that lately I have not been an industrious little writer in the days of staring at a blank Word screen in front of me, I cannot resist poking around the Internet for interesting writer-ey tidbits.
At Balticon (http://www.balticon.org) one of the panelists was Edmund R. Schubert who last May became the editor of Orson Scott Card’s Intergalactic Medicine Show. He spoke about what he looks for in a story and some of the things not to do.
He has a number of different websites, but what caught my eye was an article about halfway down the page on http://www.edmundrschubert.com/onwriting.htm
Just for a taste, he begins with the thought, “Would you rather be known as a writer who chooses words, or merely uses them?”
That sentence alone offers much for thought.
